Hi, G'day Mate, 안녕, Howdy.
David Sung-il Hwang, 황성일 (also known as dayv., pronounced day-v) is a multi-discplined designer currently in Houston with experience in product design, branding, and visual communication.
I grew up as a third culture kid (TCK), moving between Australia, South Korea, and the U.S. This multicultural upbringing taught me how to navigate different perspectives, adapt quickly, and stay curious—traits that continue to influence how I think and design today.
I see design in the everyday things—in the way we organize our thoughts, move through a space, or interact with a product. My approach is rooted in observing the overlooked: the quiet moments, the small interactions, the subtle details that carry the most meaning.
I’m drawn to micro-to-macro-changes. Whether it’s refining a user flow, choosing the right word, or adjusting visual rhythm, I see design as a series of thoughtful decisions that together shape how we experience the world.
My design philosophy is about experience. It’s about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary, and building with care, empathy, and a sensitivity to how design unfolds in the everyday.
Outside of design, you can usually find me enjoying a cup of lightly roasted pour-over (extra points for fruity tasting notes), training for a race, or exploring new cities!
